We understand that the Coronavirus (COVID-19) outbreak is a rapidly evolving situation which is significantly impacting on events. The University of Southampton is following government guidance and we may have to postpone our plans.
The CORNERSTONE silicon photonics prototyping team will be hosting an interactive software training day at the University of Southampton, in collaboration with partners Luceda Photonics. CORNERSTONE is an industry compatible, flexible silicon photonics prototyping facility that provides a multi-project-wafer service for academics and industry. This scalable platform is unique in its design and process versatility, and offers a clear route to market through the use of deep-ultraviolet projection lithography.
This free, one-day training event is aimed at current and prospective users of the CORNERSTONE silicon photonics prototyping capability.
The day will include: current and future CORNERSTONE capabilities and platforms, interactive software training led by Luceda Photonics - learn how to use the CORNERSTONE process design kit and mask layout capability offered within Luceda IPKISS software - and a tour of the CORNERSTONE cleanroom fabrication facilities.

Silicon photonics is transforming communications. Discover how by attending our Silicon Photonics for Future Systems showcase on Monday 29 June 2020, at the University of Southampton. This event highlights the outcomes from the £6 million Silicon Photonics for Future Systems programme grant, funded by the Engineering and Physical Sciences Research Council.
Led by Professor Graham Reed at the University’s Optoelectronics Research Centre (ORC), SPFS has transformed silicon photonics by overcoming several key research challenges. In doing so, it has facilitated a revolution in low cost photonics, placing the UK at its centre.
The SPFS showcase will include guest presentations from Intel and the eminent SPFS Steering Committee, technology demonstrations, cleanroom tours, and selected exhibitors drawn from our close collaborators. The event is free to attend. We thank our sponsor Physik Instrumente (PI).
Win a hotel stay to attend both events
With support from Physik Instrumente (PI), the CORNERSTONE team is offering you the chance to win a one-night stay in a Southampton hotel to help make it easier for you to attend both the SPFS showcase and the CORNERSTONE training.
For your chance to win one of the 10 hotel-stay prizes (one-night bed and breakfast, Monday 29 June 2020 – Tuesday 30 June 2020), please answer the following question in 200 words or fewer:
How will your use of CORNERSTONE’s silicon photonics fabrication service enhance the impact of your research?
The best 10 answers will be awarded the prizes.
*Competition winners will be notified by email within two weeks of the competition deadline; this communication will include the name and location of specific hotel where the prize of one night's free bed and breakfast can be redeemed. Prizes are valid only on the specific dates (Monday 29 June 2020-Tuesday 30 June 2020), at the specified hotel and to be used for the purposes of attending both the Silicon Photonics for Future Systems Showcase and CORNERSTONE training events. Prizes are subject to availability and the competition is contingent on the Events being able to run as planned and described above; we reserve the right to cancel the competition at any time. Potential reasons for cancelling may include, but are not limited to, event change of date or cancellation, sponsor withdrawal, hotel closure or government advice.
